Creative Typography Basics

About this Course

You will learn the basic principles of typography in a series of type experimentations mixing analogue and digital skills that will inspire your creativity. In this course, you will learn to:

  • Understand typographic terms
  • Design letters using analogue and digital techniques
  • Create word compositions using a variety of creative techniques
  • Experiment with layout compositions using text

In the end of this course, you will have a range of typographic work which you can present as new skills developed from the course.



Mark Bellingham

Programme Leader – Graphic Design L3 & L4

Mark has been a Pathway Leader for Graphic Design at University for the Creative Arts since 2000. He has worked with BA, MA and PHD students, and is an external moderator for University of the Arts, London.

He is passionate about teaching and learning and is always looking for new ways to engage students with ideas, practice and research. He has developed curriculums to enable a creative and experimental approaches to visual communication which has developed from his interests in fine art, photography, time based media and typography. He is currently researching the idea of the ‘image as object’ in the post internet era, from analogue and digital books, billboards and installation. Likes: food music travel.
