      Pattern Grading for the Fashion Industry

      Duration: 5 weeks on every Monday and Wednesday

      The course is designed to develop the student’s understanding of pattern grading in the fashion industry. Students will be taught the British approach to creating grade rules. Practical demonstrations will be given and the student will be challenged to manually draw grades of progressively more complex garments.

      This course will be of special interest to professional pattern cutters who wish to understand the basic formation of grade rules and to develop their skills in different garments. Students will not use computers on this course, but will work manually so that a full understanding of grading theory and practice is achieved.

       

      What we will cover:

      • The basics of body proportion.
      • The theory and practice of creating grade rules.
      • The students will manually draw grades of men’s and ladies’ garments, including skirts, trousers, bodice and shirt blocks.
      • The course content will become progressively more complex, with the introduction of tailored wear in a variety of styles, including set-in and raglan sleeves.
